             abstract = "Foram selecionadas duas {\'a}reas teste (Folha Serra dos 
                         Caraj{\'a}s e a {\'a}rea do Pojuca) situadas na 
                         Prov{\'{\i}}ncia Mineral de Caraj{\'a}s para 
                         investiga{\c{c}}{\~a}o geol{\'o}gica. Utilizou-se nesta 
                         pesquisa os dados gamaespectrom{\'e}tricos adquiridos durante os 
                         anos de 1975 e 1976, que se referem aos aerolevantamentos do 
                         Projeto Geof{\'{\i}}sico Brasil-Canad{\'a}. Os perfis 
                         gamaespectrom{\'e}tricos foram coletados, atrav{\'e}s de linhas 
                         de voo posicionadas segundo a dire{\c{c}}{\~a}o N-S e 
                         espa{\c{c}}adas de 1 km, com intervalo de amostragem igual 61m. 
                         Tais perfis convertidos, inicialmente, em grades regulares com 
                         resolu{\c{c}}{\~a}o de 625 x 625 m, foram transformados em 
                         imagens digitais com resolu{\c{c}}{\~o}es de 125 x 125 m e 30 x 
                         30 m (reamostragem), As imagens gama individuais, combinadas e 
                         integradas as imagens TM/LANDSAT, foram analisadas, atrav{\'e}s 
                         das t{\'e}cnicas de processamento digital de imagens 
                         (composi{\c{c}}{\~o}es coloridas, transforma{\c{c}}{\~o}es por 
                         componente principal, decorrela{\c{c}}{\~a}o e IHS); bem como 
                         visualmente. Os produtos analisados, quando comparados aos mapas 
                         geol{\'o}gicos (na escala regional e de semi-detalhe), mostraram 
                         que existem fortes correla{\c{c}}{\~o}es espaciais entre as 
                         unidades litoestratigr{\'a}ficas, as fei{\c{c}}{\~o}es 
                         estruturais e os padr{\~o}es radiom{\'e}tricos. Al{\'e}m disso, 
                         foi observado que os dados aerogamaespectrom{\'e}tricos digitais 
                         integrados {\`a}s imagens TM/LANDSAT, constituem-se em uma 
                         ferramenta poderosa para o mapeamento geol{\'o}gico e programas 
                         de explora{\c{c}}{\~a}o mineral neste ambiente amaz{\^o}nico 
                         com floresta tropical. ABSTRACT: Two test-sites, covering the 
                         Serra dos Carajas sheet (56, 5 x 56, 5 km) and the Pojuca belt 
                         (15, 4 x 15, 4 km) were selected for geological investigation. 
                         Gammaspectrometric airborne data (eU, eTh, Total Count and eU/eTh) 
                         were acquired over part of the Serra dos Carajas Mineral Province 
                         (Brazilian Amazon Region) during the 1975 and 1976 (PGBC - 
                         Brazil-Canada Geophysical Program) campaigns. The original data 
                         were collected in NS profiles (1 km apart and 61 meter samples 
                         along the profiles). The gamma spectrometric data were converted 
                         twice, first to a 625 x 625 m grid and then to a 125 x 125 m grid 
                         (resampling). The 125 x 125 m data were transformed into digital 
                         images with cells of 125 x 125 m and 30 x 30 m. Isolated and 
                         combined gamma images were analysed by digital enhancement 
                         techniques (color composites, principal component, analysis 
                         decorrelation stretch and IHS transform) and visual examination. 
                         The UTM registered gamma and TM/Landsat images were integrated 
                         through IHS transform. The enhanced products were compared to 
                         geological maps and this comparition has demonstrated that 
                         lithostratigraphic units and structural features registered on 
                         both data source are perfectly concordant. In addition, the 
                         research has provided insights regarding the knowledge of the 
                         geological model in the study areas. Gamma airborne data whether 
                         isolated or integrated with orbital remote sensing data have 
                         proved to be a powerful tool for geological mapping and mineral 
                         exploration programs in this rain forest Amazon environment.",
